Magento Migration: It’s Never Too Late

With Magento 1 reaching end of life in a little over two weeks’ time, you might rightly be worried about the impact this may have on your business. Will the sun fall out of the sky if you don’t do something about it?

Firstly, the bad news.

The withdrawal of official support, security updates and quality enhancements for Magento 1 means your store will become more vulnerable to new security threats after June 30th 2020.

In addition, the lack of new patches and fixes is also likely to affect the long-term stability of your site, meaning we’d highly recommend moving to Magento 2 as soon as possible.

The good news? There’s still time to make the move to Magento 2.

What’s more, the withdrawal of support doesn’t mean your Magento 1 store will suddenly stop working at the end of this month. It should continue to function largely as normal, but we’d still strongly advise upgrading to Magento 2 sooner rather than later if you want to protect and future-proof your business.

Why migrate to Magento 2?

1. Security, security, security

Each time a customer shops with you, they are placing their trust in your business. They want to shop safely, and they absolutely expect you to do everything you can to protect their sensitive personal and financial information.

The simple truth is that an out-of-date site makes your store more vulnerable to hackers and puts this important data at risk. Remember: the ONLY way to get important ongoing security updates is to upgrade to Magento 2.

2. Stability

Magento is a fantastic platform, but like anything in life it isn’t perfect. Conflicts can occur, and things can break – and the reality is you’re more likely to run into problems if the site is running outdated software.

Upgrading to Magento 2 will provide long-term stability and peace of mind, allowing you to grow your business without worrying too much about if your site is going to break. This is reason enough alone to make the switch, but there’s also another very compelling reason…

3. New features

Magento 2 is also a huge upgrade over its predecessor, offering a vastly improved checkout process and a whole host of new features. Customers can now shop much more quickly, meaning better user satisfaction, higher conversions and more sales.

What’s more, Magento delivers a number of backend improvements that make it easier to manage your site on a day to day basis.

Migrating to Magento 2

Far from being a simple one-click update, moving from Magento 1 to Magento 2 requires careful planning and a well-versed migration process. It is, to all intents and purposes, a completely new platform that is significantly different to its predecessor.
